April 30, 2011- What a treat to be invited back to Sylvania Heights Elementary School (FL). Breathe, Eat and Photosynthesis was the lesson of the day. It was wonderful going back into Ms.Losada's class. The students had enjoyed the previous presentation Water Needs and Supplies on 3/8/11. I know because they sent wonderful letters! I heard that I am getting more letters. Love the letters!

April 22, 2011- EARTH DAY
I was  proud to be displaying Nature's Natives 4 panels of environmental awareness artwork at Miami International Airport! Unfortunately, I couldn't see it because it was behind the scenes with TSA and airport employees. I was told by Dwayne (TSA) that the display was very well received especially since Nature's Natives® is informative without the gloom and doom. This is one of the things that NN does best... facts without judgement and easy to understand.
March 8, 2011-  Sylvania Heights Elementary School (FL) was my destination. Water Needs and Supplies was the lesson of the day. I was invited by the school nurse.  The students truly enjoyed learning this important Nature's Natives lesson. Ms. Losado's and Mrs. Blount's classes sent wonderful letters telling me what they learned and how much they enjoyed the presentation. Great letters. I want to thank Yurania who was wonderful with scheduling the classes.
February 24, 2011-  Rainbow Park Elementary School (FL) was my destination. Breathe, Eat and Photosynthesis was the lesson of the evening. I was invited to the school by the Community Outreach Coordinator. NN kicked off the Evening of Science program.
This was my second visit to this school. My first visit, Wanda Water Visits Miami-Dade was the opening act for students and parents who would be learning about FCAT ins and outs.
January 8, 2011- the Cancer Community Center was my destination. Photosynthesis and Peace of Mind was the lesson of the day. This was my 3rd time presenting at the Cancer Community Center. What a special place!
The kids ages were between 6 and 18 with a few groups of siblings. One 17 year old said that she wished she had science like this when she was a kid. All enjoyed blowing bubbles as we practiced our deep breathing. I was invited to present at the center by Dr. Peggy Rios, the Center's Director.
Really, what a wonderful resource for the community!

March 25, 2011-  Starke, Florida was my destination to present at the LEEF annual conference. Breathe, Eat and Photosynthesis was the lesson of the day. The event was on the rustic grounds of the Montgomery Presbyterian Conference Center. LEEF is a wonderful organization with wonderful people.
The presentation attendees all stated that they learned something.
Also, the dinner that evening was very tasty..

September 24, 2011 - It rained. It poured. Those Scouts, Troop Leaders and Parents are a very tough group! They stayed through the rain and a good time was had by all. I tip my hat to Sharon Krutulis and the Girl Scouts for putting this together. Picture groups of girls proudly wearing their Troop's distinctive T-shirts. But they all had a common theme, 'I am a Girl Scout'.

I was fortunate to have a table inside for my Nature's Natives® display and demonstration.
Not only that, I was next to the face painting lady (who was really good!). Lots of traffic!
I had the privilege of talking to many girls, Troop Leaders, and parents. Thank you Troop 552, Troop 213, Troop 137, Troop 361, Troop 333, Troop 220 and all the others for stopping by. I had fun sharing the Nature's Natives® lesson of the day...Why we Need Water and Where our Water Supply is Located.

After the lesson I asked the girls, "What did you learn?" I wrote down their answers. This is what our future women had to say. (Great intro for those participating in the Scouts Wonders of Water theme.)
I learned about:
The water cycle
Why we need water to live
Water is underground for us
We need water for our kidneys
We need water for bones
Why we should save water and what water is used for
We use water to live
When water is used we need it to rain
Water goes into the aquifer when it rains
We need water for the earth
Water is good for kidneys and bones
Water is good for plants
We use the water we need
How we get water
Water seeps down into the aquifer
Aquifers are made up of rocks
Water comes from under the ground
We are connected to clouds because it rains
Water is good for your body
We get our water from the aquifer and rain
We need water for our bones, kidneys and electrical system
Water is life and we need water
Water is used all over the world
We drink water that comes from the ground
When it rains we get more water
We need to drink water
If we waste too much water we can't use it for what we need

These are smart girls! These girls are our future.
ANNUAL GIRL SCOUT RALLY AND FAMILY FEST
     DCSTA ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING
October 5, 2011 - On Wed. evening Nature’s Natives had the pleasure to be a vendor at the Dade County Science Teachers Association (DCSTA). Their Fall Annual Membership Meeting was held at the Miami Museum of Science. I’m always amazed at the high energy these teachers have when they talk about what they are teaching in the classrooms. One teacher mentioned that she teaches High School science and has taught the top students of the school and also the more challenging students. One thing that stood out, she expects the class to give their best.
My personal thanks goes out to all of these science teachers who touch the lives of students day by day and year by year.
November 18 & 20, 2011 - The International Miami Book Fair was so much fun! Friday, the Green Tent was filled with elementary school students who were enjoying the day's field trip. The Miami Museum of Science was the host of the Green Tent. All of us vendors complimented each other with environmental education available. The Deering Estate had their table top display and also had a craft activity for the kids (the life cycle of the butterfly in pasta). An environmental awareness about the ocean  entertained kids as they learned how long different items (paper, plastic etc.) take to decompose. Miami-Dade Solid Waste Management had a wonderful display of what can be recycled and what should not be put in the bin. They also had samples of a baseball cap that was made from recycled bottle caps and a carpet sample that was made from the same. Very interesting! Of course, Nature's Natives was there, too. Water needs and supplies was the lesson of the day with 'aquifer'.

Sunday had a totally different crowd. So many families came out to the book fair and so many families joined us in the Museum of Sciences' Green Tent. Sunday's vendors included the Miami Museum of Science, Sweet Vine, M-D Solid Waste Mgt. and Nature's Natives. Kyle Pereira was assisting me for the day. Thanks Kyle! Thanks to all of the families that came to visit us in the Green Tent!

November 9, 2011 - Air Base Elementary School at Homestead, Florida had an event that I never saw another elementary school do. They had a Green Education Fair on a weeknight at the school. What was so impressive was that over 500 people came out for the event. The parents and kids were in a good mood along with the faculty and staff. The event was very well organized and besides the vendors there were activities galore for the kids to enjoy. The faculty, staff, administration, students and teachers were amazing!

 PERRINE ELEMENTARY EXPRESSIVE ARTS
December 15, 2011 - Perrine Elementary School had a new experience for me. I presented Nature's Natives Water Needs & Supplies but this time the presentation was video taped and then shown to every student in school. This Nature's Natives presentation was part of  this school's Green School Challenge. What an honor! I was curious as to how the video taping went and here's the answer from Ms. Dean who is part of the school's Green Team.

--The video was awesome and was viewed by the whole school. The art teacher had the students reflect their learning. I have some of those pictures (in particular, one little girl drew happy kidneys when they get enough water – so cute!). Hopefully, I can transmit to you a copy of the video and photos of the artwork real soon. Again, I thank you for contributing to our students’ learning and to our green school challenge.
January 23, 2012 - The only thing better than spending time at the Deering Estate at Cutler is presenting Breathe, Eat and Photosynthesis to the group spending the day at the Estate's Mini-Camp. Here's what is listed: Monday, January 23, 2012
Topic: "Plants"
Special Guest: Lynne Hudgins from Nature's Natives
“Breathe, Eat & Photosynthesis” presentation from 10 am to 10:45 am
This is a tribute to the remarkable process in nature that gives us our oxygen, takes carbon dioxide out of the air and starts our food chain!

Nature's Natives will be back at the Deering Estate on March 17th with Wanda Water Visits Miami-Dade story and animation.  http://www.deeringestate.com/

TEACHER'S CONFERENCE
February 11, 2012 - It's always a treat to meet many teachers from all around the County at a single event. Students don't know it but teachers are a fun group of people. The Annual Miami-Dade County Science and Mathematics Teachers' Conference took place at the historic Miami Sr. High School. These events are fun because I not only get to talk to teachers but I also get to talk with other vendors. There are wonderful resources out there and I'm glad that Nature's Natives plays a part.
GIRL SCOUTS SERVICE UNIT
THINKING DAY
February 25, 2012 - Theresa Cooper, Troop 213 Leader for the Girl Scouts gave her girls an awareness of scouts around the world with the focus on environment. Nature's Natives joined this Girl Scout Service Unit Thinking Day. The focus was on countries that are having problems with air, water pollution, soil erosion and deforestation. Workshops focused on different countries cultures as well as their environmental problems so the girls can learn to bring awareness to this issues. Nature's Natives Water Needs and Supplies was a perfect fit and the girls truly enjoyed it. I give Theresa and all of the Scout leaders and moms a big Girl Scout salute!
GIRL SCOUTS SELF-ESTEEM DAY/
FOR-EVER GREEN
March 3, 2012 - Beverly Jones invited Nature's Natives to participate in the wonderful Girl Scout experience of Girl Scouts Self Esteem Day/for-ever Green. This was a wonderful opportunity to teach the girls about how water keeps them healthy and how we are all responsible for taking care of water.
The Moms were an important part of this day because they are the ones who bring  their girls to these wonderful events and share the experience!
What a wonderful Thank you e-mail from Beverly Jones from the Girl Scouts!

"I just wanted to say “Thank You” again for coming to the Girl Scout Self Esteem/Forever Green Day held on March 3rd.   Your participation help make this event a huge success.

I also wanted to share with you some of the participants responses on the Program Evaluation:
1.       What new skills did you learn?“I learned how to save water”; “We get our water from underground”; “The importance of water”; “You should not waste water and we need water for our body” “Drink water to clean are kidneys”; “I learned how water is good for you” “Your whole body needs water”
2.       What were the highlights of this event?  “Nature Natives”;

You are doing a tremendous work with our young children and thank you for making a difference in a girl’s life".

Native Plant Day
MARCH 17, 2012 - It was back to the Deering Estate at Cutler for Archeology Day. Nature's Natives chimed in with Wanda Water's story, Wanda Water Visits Miami-Dade. Visitors had a chance to visit how Miami became a city and see what the water supply looked like back then and compare it to now.
The Deering Estate is the perfect place to talk about the past and present.
CHAPMAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
MARCH 23, 2012 - Chapman Elementary School had their in school e-fair sponsored by Sweet Vine. The students had a wonderful time learning why they need water and where their water supply is located.
S.W.A.T. MEET @ SUNNY ISLES K-8
MARCH 27, 2012 - It was a wonderful evening in Sunny Isles K-9 with the Science With A Twist (S.W.A.T.) event. Breathe, Eat & Photosynthesis was the lesson for the evening.  I received a very nice e-mail from Glenda Moton, the organizer. Thanks for taking the time to share your gift with so many parents and students this evening. The event was extremely successful and I'm grateful for the contributions you made this evening.
NORWOOD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
MARCH 29, 2012 - Ms. Allen and I met at a DCSTA event where she invited me to present Breathe, Eat & Photosynthesis to her, Ms. Wallen and Mr. Hawkins classes at Norwood Elementary School. Ms. Allen was great! She jumped right in and quizzed her students using the presentation's subject matter in continuing to get her class prepared for the FCAT.
DEERING ESTATE AT CUTLER
MARCH 30, 2012 - The Limestone Rock game finished this lesson and demonstration at the Deering Estate Mini Camp with a focus on archaeology. This was a good time to look at how South Florida's rocks have been above water and below water many times in history.
March 31, 2012 - It was truly an honor to participate in the Girl Scouts Earth Hour event at Kendall Indian Hammocks Park. After the girls participated in the environmental awareness activities the organizers had everyone stand in a friendship circle formation that spelled out G S.
What a great combination of nature and friendship.
It was nice to see one of the Girl Scouts who had participated in the Deering Estate's archaeology Mini Camp!

GIRL SCOUTS EARTH HOUR
DEERING ESTATE AT CUTLER
APRIL 6, 2012 - I was happy to participate in the Deering Estate at Cutler Mini Camp about conservation. This was a good time to explore the basics of our drinking water. Water Needs and Supplies animated presentation give us a good look at just that, why we need water and how nature provides the supplies.
S.W.A.T. MEET @ TWIN LAKES ELEMENTARY
APRIL 10, 2012 - I really enjoy these evenings where the parents join the students in a science focused school event. Twin Lakes Elementary  opened the school in the evening for Science With A Twist (S.W.A.T.). There were tables full of wonderful science experiments along with what looked like a hoveround by NASA. There were experts talking about giant snails that are taking over a special habitat. Breathe, Eat & Photosynthesis was the Nature's Natives lesson for the evening. There is so much to to experience and what better way than to learn and grow with family.
S.W.A.T. MEET FOR
CRESTVIEW & SKYWAY ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
APRIL 12, 2012 - This enjoyable Science With A Twist (S.W.A.T.) event happened at Crestview Elementary School. Skyway Elementary School was invited to share in the experience. I was set-up in a classroom for the Nature's Natives Breathe, Eat & Photosynthesis presentation and parents along with their children were able to participate with jumping jacks and deep breathing exercises.
APRIL 14, 2012 - Who wouldn't want to spend a beautiful day at the Miami River where free boat rides were offered alongside tables full of environmental exhibits and information? Nature's Natives shared a table with the Treemendous organization. These events are an easy way to get to know about many local and world wide environmental issues/concerns at one event. The Nature's Natives focus of the day was to teach that our water supply in South Florida is under our feet in the Biscayne Aquifer and that many people share this water supply. This understanding is a prerequisite for water conservation.
It was a nice touch that the attendees received ribbons for getting all of their stars in their passport like papers by visiting the different tables.
APRIL 21, 2012 - The weather was less than optimal for the Book Nook by the Bay event at the Deering Estate. It was too bad because the Dade County Library had their activity ready with their Art of Storytelling International Festival (4/28/12) promotion. Also, Deering was ready with wonderful environment/nature/animal stories ready to be read by ourselves, to each other or to lots of stuffed animals. Nature's Natives was ready to make books with attendees about our atmosphere and see how the greenhouse effects works.
I admit it. While I was there I took the opportunity to read Gary Larson's, There's a Hair in My Dirt! A Worm's Story.
JULY 21, 2012 - It was another rainy day at the Deering Estate at Cutler but close to 2,000 people showed up for the July Fee Free Play day. It was the perfect day to present Nature's Natives, Water Needs, Supplies and Conservation. Crowds of guests joined me in the classroom for the continuing presentations.
AUGUST 18, 2012 - The Deering Estate at Cutler opened their doors to the community for their Fee Free Play day. The theme of the day was honoring Teachers and Environmental Educators in Miami Dade County.
Nature's Natives presentation, Breathe, Eat and Photosynthesis was enjoyed by many in the community.
SEPTEMBER 27, 2012 - On Thurs. evening Nature’s Natives had the pleasure to be a vendor at the Dade County Science Teachers Association (DCSTA).  Their Fall Annual Membership Meeting was held at the Miami Museum of Science.
It was wonderful to see Mary Lou again. I met her last year at this event where she purchased the Nature's Natives animated presentations. See above for her review of the program.
It is always a pleasure to meet and talk to the science teachers who take on the responsibility of teaching our children this very important subject.
SEPTEMBER 29, 2012 - It was a beautiful Saturday at The Girl Scout's Camp Choee. The camp was filled with groups of Girl Scouts and Brownies from all over the county. It was wonderful to watch these girls showing their individuality while joined in together in their sisterhood. There were many activities for these girls including karaoke, yoga, games of skill, and of course environmental education with Nature's Natives. The girls and their parents were engaging and communicating with each other and the cell phones seemed to be put away for the day.Sharon Krutulis did a wonderful job (as always) organizing this event that encourages girls to be...well, take a look above at the Girl Scouts motto. It's good stuff and I was honored to get an  invitation for Nature's Natives to participate. For these girls, I offered a free Nature's Natives Wanda Water story download.
DECEMBER 9, 2012 - Miami Sr. High played host for the Dade County Science Teachers Association (DCSTA) conference. This year I presented, Nature's Natives Sea Level Rise and South Florida. This session acknowledges South Florida's sea level challenges and, of course, this is presented with the Nature's Natives View. We discussed effective ways to incorporate contemporary issues into the science curriculum and engaged in a brief demonstration of the properties of water.
DECEMBER 1, 2012 - It was an honor for Nature's Natives to receive a special commendation at the The CLEO Institute's Annual Celebration.
CLEO is serious about getting the conversation of climate change out into our community. I recommend taking a look at www.CLEOInstitute.org

JANUARY 19, 2013 - It was another beautiful day at the The Deering Estate at Cutler. January in Miami is very nice. The theme of the day was photosynthesis. I brought a felt board with all that was necessary to 'see' photosynthesis. Of course, this was the Nature's Natives® View. After we 'looked' at photosynthesis I handed out magnet paper with the printed photosynthesis parts. This way, the kids could cut out the parts, take them home and then review the photosynthesis process on their refrigerator! This is what I call, refrigerator art.
It's important for kids to understand that plants take carbon dioxide out of the air. [Important for understanding climate change]. Plants also release oxygen, which we breathe in. And there's more! Plants are the beginning of the food chain! It's about our air, our food and our oceans, too. Phytoplankton photosynthesize in the oceans.
FEBRUARY 12th & 28th, 2013 There is a terrific program that I recently had the pleasure of partnering with and that is Art Studio Miami.org. I was invited to be a quest speaker for their Winter Program at Jesse J. McCrary Elementary. Their curriculum for this particular program is creating a class/collaborative mural with the theme of Earth, Air and Water: Our elements.

I mean, how perfect is for Nature's Natives to join in with Water Needs, Supplies & Conservation and Breathe, Eat and Photosynthesis?  It was so warming on my second visits when I came into the room and the kids responded in that 'happy to see you' way. That was my first test and I passed splendidly. The kids were great! The next test was when I asked the group about the previous lesson on water. Again, Nature's Natives® received excellent grades. The kids totally got the lessons and I believe that they will take this important information with them throughout their lives. Did I mention that the kids were great?
Art Studio Miami.org's aline is Empowering Young Minds and It's very satisfying to participate in their goals.
MARCH 16, 2013 - It was another beautiful day at the The Deering Estate at Cutler.  The theme of the day was Limestone Rocks. We have quite a bit of this rock here in South Florida. This porous rock is our foundation. I brought Nature's Natives® Limestone Rock games for the kids to put together and play. We talked about parts of Florida have been under water and above water at different time in Florida's history. The kids took their games home with them.
May 18, 2013 - It was another beautiful day at the The Deering Estate at Cutler although the weather is getting starting to get a little warm. The theme for the Book Nook by the Bay was the Water Cycle. I brought a magnet board with all the necessary parts to 'see' the water cycle. Of course, this was the Nature's Natives®, View. We would 'look' at the water cycle using magnetic water cycle parts that the kids would cut out. This way, the kids could cut out the parts, take them home and then review the water cycle process on their refrigerator!
MAY 2nd & 7th, 2013 I headed back Jesse J. McCrary Elementary/Art Studio Miami with more Nature's Natives (NN) programs. I was invited to be a quest speaker for their Winter Program about creating a class/collaborative mural with the theme of Earth, Air and Water: The first NN presentation was Wanda Water Visits Miami-Dade. This story presentation gave the students an interesting history lesson and also reinforced past NN water supply lessons. The next time I visited the group we had a fun day of experiments about water. BTW -These students have done a phenomenal job on their Project.
MARCH 11th & 15th, 2013 These events have a special energy. The kids who complain so much about having to go to school have so much fun being there in the evening. This SWAT (Science with a Twist) was presented at Nova University for the benefit of several local elementary schools. The second SWAT Meet was at Sunny Isles K-8. This year I presented Water Needs, Supplies and Conservation using a poster and an 'aquifer' demonstration'. It's always wonderful to see parents and kids having a good time in this friendly learning environment.
