Sam Sun is Earth's sun and a major mover of nature. He is very powerful. Sam can get the rest of the Natives moving, although he can't figure them out for the life of him. Sometimes Sid gets on his nerves, but hey, what are kids for?

• The oceans take in the solar energy and heat up.
  

• Solar heat provides the energy that starts the evaporation of water.
  

• Earth's surface is not heated equally. The equator gets more heat rays than the North and South Poles. This unequal heating of Earth is the major cause of weather.
  

• Some of the Sun's rays that reach Earth are absorbed by the land. Other rays bounce off ice. Still, other rays are absorbed by the oceans. All of these affect the local climate.
  

• Solar radiation gives the energy for photosynthesis, the beginning of the food chain. We need the sun for our food.
